AHA Releases Pathways to Recovery Compendium

Members-only resource includes a section on governance

By Sue Ellen Wagner

AHA has released Pathways to Recovery to assist hospitals and health systems in preparing to reopen their facilities. This document, for access by AHA members only, includes questions and checklists to consider as hospitals work toward a safe, orderly return to providing comprehensive health care services to their communities. Chapters in the resource focus on workforce, internal and external communications, supply chain, financial management and governance, support and ancillary services, plant operations/environment of care and more.

The compendium’s section on governance discusses key areas that governing boards should consider during times of crisis: board and CEO communication; understanding organizational planning and safety protocols; boards as community leaders; compliance with regulatory guidelines for reopening; understanding financial implications; and capturing learnings to better prepare for the future.

Development of the compendium was led by an AHA Board Task Force with input from many association members.
